What is Apparel Merchandising?
If you’re under the impression that
fashion designing is the only career option in the fashion industry, you
couldn’t be more wrong. There are other aspects of fashion, for example textile
designing and apparel merchandising, both of which are equally important. Our
focus in this blog is on Apparel Merchandising, also called Fashion
Merchandising.
Apparel Merchandising involves
promotion of sales, and other tasks necessary to deliver the apparel requests
of customers and designers. Apparel Merchandising includes, but is not limited
to campaigns, presentations, advertisements, and direct marketing, as well as
creating sales strategies for the industry. Merchandising also includes doing
every preparation to make sure that merchandise is accessible and appealing to
customers (attracting customers). Doesn’t sound like an easy job, does it? It
isn’t. People get degrees for this work. One can find apparel merchandising
courses in most fashion designing
colleges in Delhi and other such cities.
The key to being an ideal
merchandiser is to make good contacts, and be ready to travel, a lot. A
merchandiser needs to promote and obtain goods to sell to the customers, which
will involve going to lots of fashion events (national and international),
buying a lot of fashion paraphernalia and discussing terms with merchants,
manufacturers, retailers and designers.
Apparel
merchandising is an industry that requires
business expertiseand knowledge as well as a strong fashion sense.Staying ahead
in fashion is a tough job, demanding both art and commerce. If you have these
skills, in addition to an undying love of fashion, then Apparel merchandising
is the field for you.
